Questions, answered.

Learn how Across the Ages calculates ages, organizes photos, remembers milestones, protects family information, and keeps loved ones part of the story.

GETTING STARTED

Understanding the app

What does Across the Ages do?

It keeps each person’s current age easy to see, organizes family members by relationship, tracks birthdays and anniversaries, creates personal photo galleries, and preserves meaningful details for loved ones who have passed away.

Do I need to create an account?

The app is designed around information stored on your device rather than a public family profile. iCloud backup can be enabled separately using the Apple account already connected to the device.

Who can I add?

You can organize children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and other important family relationships.

Can I customize how ages are shown?

Yes. Depending on your settings, ages can be displayed in years, years and months, or with additional day-level detail.

AGES & MILESTONES

Always current

How does the real-time age calculation work?

Enter a birth date once. Across the Ages uses the current date to continually calculate that person’s age, so the number stays current without manual updates.

Does the age change automatically?

Yes. The displayed age updates as time passes. Birthdays, months, and optional day-level detail are recalculated from the stored birth date.

What appears in Upcoming Events?

Upcoming Events can bring together birthdays, anniversaries, and expected family members. Reminder settings let you decide which events matter and how far in advance you want to be notified.

Can the app track anniversaries?

Yes. Marriage dates can be stored so the app can show the anniversary and the length of the marriage.

PHOTOS & MEMORIALS

Every picture has a place

Can one person have multiple photos?

Yes. Each person can have a personal gallery with photos from different stages of life, creating a visual timeline that grows over time.

How does the app know their age in a photo?

When a reliable photo date is available, the app can compare it with the person’s birth date and calculate their age at the time of the picture. You can review or enter the year or age manually when photo information is missing.

What information is shown for a deceased loved one?

The app can show when the person passed away, how old they were when they passed, how long they have been gone, and how old they would be today. Photos and memorial notes can remain connected to their profile.

Does marking someone deceased remove them from the family?

No. They remain part of the family record and can continue to appear with their photos, relationships, dates, and memorial information.

PRIVACY, BACKUP & SHARING

Your information stays in your control

How is access protected?

You can use familiar iPhone protections such as Face ID and the device passcode or an app backup PIN, depending on the options enabled in the app.

How does iCloud backup work?

When enabled, the app creates a restorable copy in the iCloud account connected to the device. Backup and restore controls remain in the app’s Settings area.

Can I share the family information with a relative?

Yes. Export creates a family file that you can send using the sharing method you choose. The recipient can import that file instead of entering the same family information from scratch.

Can I delete or reset my information?

Yes. The app includes controls for removing family data and starting over. Exported files and copies stored outside the app must be deleted separately wherever you saved or shared them.
